Forest of Avon Trust
Forest of Avon Trust is delighted to have its first year online at Treefest!
We are your local tree and woodland charity.
Our tree is made from scrap, discarded or borrowed items with a handful of fallen cones and leaves. The trunk came from the wonderful
St Werburghs Scrapstore and branches are fallen twigs from the ground outside!
We have decorated the tree with some of this year’s activities including the beautiful artwork from our Woodland Wellbeing activities. We have also got pictures of some trees planted and thriving at Colliter’s Wood in South Bristol, a new signpost we provided at Overscourt Woods and the lovely Cotswold Wardens volunteering at our Retreat Woodland. And of course trees from all corners of the Forest of Avon.
Forest of Avon Trust brings trees to people and people to trees! The Forest of Avon covers broadly the West of England - North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bath & North East Somerset and Bristol.
We plant and care for trees and woodlands, working with landowners, local authorities, businesses, local groups and partners to get more trees planted and cared for and improving access to local woodlands.
We also work to connect people who do not have easy access to our woodlands, including planting trees in areas of low tree cover and running Woodland Wellbeing courses for those living with dementia and their carers as well as those living with mental health challenges.
After many months of planning, Forest of Avon Trust, as one of England’s Community Forests, has just launched the first phase of our tree planting programme. The national programme is called Trees for Climate and we will be planting hectares of new trees in the coming weeks.
We aim for the Forest of Avon to expand by at least 500,000 trees in the next ten years – but we want to do much more than this too - our Ten Goals for Ten Years are set out here: https://forestofavontrust.org/about/ten-goals-in-ten-years
Whilst this year has seen a limit to much of our active work outside and particularly with volunteers, we have adapted our Wellbeing courses to keep them going where we can and have been busy in the background doing a large amount of work to make sure we can achieve the optimum tree cover for the region in coming years and ensure everyone, particularly those in areas of low tree cover, can access our community woodlands.
We are looking forward to stepping up for Treefest next year when we hope to be able to work with our Woodland Wellbeing groups and volunteers to make our tree and decorations.
Have a look on our social media accounts to vote for us and to check out our upcoming seasonal tree and plant fun facts through December!
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Forest of Avon Trust throughout 2020!
