Amnesty International
The Bristol Amnesty International Group campaigns to defend human rights around the world.
The first image shows three different trees coming together to create one. This shows that even though we are apart, when we come together, we can create real difference. The pencil reminds us that we can create this change through writing letters.
We have also decorated a tree in real life with the images of the individual human rights defenders we are supporting in this year’s global Write for Rights campaign.
The further images tell you a bit about each human rights defender and has a link and QR code to the action you can take to support them. You can use your phone to scan the QR code (this might work automatically from your camera or you can download a QR app).
When we all act together, we are more powerful. That is the driving force behind Write for Rights, Amnesty’s global campaign and the world’s biggest human rights event. Every year, millions of individuals write letters, sign petitions and organise events. And it works! People are freed, justice is served, and the world becomes a better place. Every action counts, and these people need your help. So, before clicking on to the next wonderful tree, take a few minutes to act now and help protect human rights.
Emil Ostrovko reflects on what being a part of Write for Rights 2019 meant to them:
‘Over the last few months I have been receiving messages of solidarity from all over the world and they have given me enormous strength and inspiration. This campaign made me believe in the importance of fighting for my rights. It showed me that my life mattered and that I was not forgotten. Thank you so much.
We are an active group where new members are always welcome. During this year we have moved our meetings online, do get in touch if you would like to learn how you can get involved.
