Recruitment of Choristers (aged 8+)

Dear Parents,

To continue and further our high musical standards, we are looking to recruit boys aged 8+. We have also set up a girls’ choir (ages 10-14), which rehearses on a Thursday from 4.15-5.45pm at the church: please get in touch if this is of interest too!

Here are some of the benefits of singing in the choir:

  • Enjoyment of music and new friendships
  • A free musical education (including vocal tuition)
  • A structured system of training (including singing exams)
  • Opportunities to develop in the Christian faith (children from families

with little or no religious inclination are also welcome to join the choir)

  • Termly payment (currently in the range £10 - £30)
  • Extra money through singing for weddings (range of £5 - £9 per wedding)
  • Regular Cathedral visits/tours and concerts. Foreign Tours every 4/5 years.
  • Social Events, including a Choir Club (after Friday practice)
  • Trips out: Theme Parks, 10 pin bowling and other events.
  • Opportunities beyond our choir (Residential courses- optional)
  • Important life skills (self-discipline, high standards, sense of achievement)

Timetable of practices/services

The boys and men’s choir year is broadly similar to school terms;

Holidays after Christmas, Easter and all of August; reduced practices at half-term.

Tuesday   Practice: 6.30 – 7.30pm         Friday   Practice: 6.30 – 8.20pm

Sundays   Services at 9.30am & 6.30pm.    (We meet 30 minutes before)

(Choristers often share lifts, so the weekly commitment becomes easily manageable)

New boys usually attend one rehearsal and the commitment gradually builds up over time.

Do visit the church, email or phone if you would like any more information
